Engineering projects I
In Engineering Project I, students are expected to learn technical drawing and how to read technical drawings. To this end, you will work with objects from the demonstrator pool, which will be disassembled into individual parts, and you will then be required to produce technical drawings of these parts. These drawings must be done by hand. You will use drawing paper, which is available at the campus store. You will also need the appropriate pencils (0.7 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.3 mm mechanical pencils) and a standard font template. You can borrow the necessary templates and drawing boards from us. You must also create a parts list. A form is available here in the Campus Shop, or you can find a suitable template online. The Hoischen and the Metall table book will help you with the drawing and the correct annotations. It is not the tutors’ job to teach you technical drawing! The amount of work you must do yourself is very high, but this will help you learn the basics of design all the better.
Engineering projects II
In the “Konstruktionsprojekt II” module at TUHH (offered by ISEM), students work in teams to further develop a billiards cue unit. The starting point is existing earlier versions, which are analyzed and improved from a design perspective. Using CAD, new concepts are designed, then manufactured via 3D printing, assembled, and tested in practice.
In addition, smaller challenges are held in which the stroke units compete against each other under realistic conditions and must demonstrate their performance. The insights gained from these challenges are incorporated into iterative improvements, ensuring that both functionality and design are continuously optimized.
Major construction project
Designing a gearbox for the Major Design Project is the ultimate challenge for every mechanical engineering student at TUHH. You’ll use CAD software and apply the knowledge you’ve gained in your design theory lectures. In addition to the technical aspects, data backup is of the utmost importance in this context (we speak from experience)!
